Our school is centrally located in the neighborhood of Floriande, Hoofddorp. A large residential district, home to almost 20.000 citizens, - several elementary and high schools, day care facilities, swimming pool and sport grounds. And with an excellent infrastructure, the school is easily accessible from within the Metropole region of Amsterdam. Our school is part of the Community School In de Breedte where we strive to bring out the best in our children. The Community School provides a comprehensive and continuous line of education for children ranging from the age of a baby all the way to the moment they are ready to attend high school at the age of twelve.
English as a second language & Global citizenship
Klavertje vier offers Early Foreign Language Instruction in addition to the regular Dutch curriculum. Children will learn their way around the English language through natural conversation and play. In Kindergarten, children will sing songs and play games together; middle school classes will work on projects and explore global studies topics in English. Regular English classes will round out the curriculum, to boost grammar and spelling. As our world keeps getting smaller, at In de Breedte Community School, we help children develop into citizens of the world. Feeling at ease with the English language opens doors and erases borders. We strive to make the foreign familiar by welcoming students from around the world, skyping with schools in other countries, and engaging in exchange programs. All this helps bringing the world to our doorstep, and our children to the world’s door. At Klavertje Vier, children not only obtain the practical skills needed in an ever more borderless world, they also familiarize themselves with different cultures and ideas.
* Connect to Succeed
A group of enthusiastic native speakers read English books to the children in the groups 1-4 on a weekly basis. This enhances their English vocabulary in a fun and interactive setting.
* European Day of Languages
We celebrate the annual European Day of Languages. For the edition of 2018 we organized an English language village, baked pancakes, offered all of our students a bus ride in an English bus and children could participate in English dancing classes.
* Innovation and sustainability
We find it important that our children learn and practice with innovation and sustainability. We organize different activities throughout the year to increase their awareness for the natural environment and their own role in our society.
* Extracurricular activities
We pride ourselves with a broad set of extracurricular activities that we offer all of our children. We celebrate Dutch Sinterklaas, Christmas, Easter breakfast, participate in sports and games outside of the school; offer birthday celebrations, join the annual ‘Avondvierdaagse’, participate in reading programmes with the local library, organize school excursions to museums, a children’s farm and the local Heijmanshof; and in addition host cultural excursions from the ‘Artsmenu’ of Haarlemmermeer.
